After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1989 with a PhD in Geology, I chose to relocate my family to Salt Lake City, Utah. In April, 1995, I founded my own company, Access Environmental Services, Inc. (AES). As president and owner of AES I have worn many hats, acquiring experience in marketing, client/regulator relations, employee relations, technical report writing, and regulatory compliance. I have conducted a broad spectrum of environmental services which are elaborated as follows:
I have conducted ESAs throughout the Intermountain West, and meet the definition of an Environmental Professional as specified in 40 CFR Part 312. My investigations have conformed with the requirements for due diligence, i.e. All Appropriate Inquiries (AAI), accordingly. Clients have included land owners, realtors, state governmental agencies, and banks/loan institutions.
I have conducted subsurface investigations and groundwater monitoring of properties throughout the Intermountain West. Most of these were conducted at leaking underground storage tank (LUST) sites under the supervision of the Utah Division of Environmental Response and Remediation (DERR). However, I have conducted several investigations and clean-ups of hazardous waste sites under the supervision of the Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste (DSHW) and/or Division of Water Quality (DWQ).
I have conducted environmental clean-ups of several dozen contaminated sites. If possible, contaminated soil has been excavated and disposed at an approved landfill or treated via land farming. For sites where digging was not practical or sufficient, I have designed, installed, and operated systems which apply cutting-edge technologies for the times. Such clean-ups have required a practical understanding of site-specific hydrology, geology, contaminant distribution/dynamics, chemistry, and physics. Technologies have included pump and treat, High Vacuum Dual Phase Extraction (HVDPE), soil-vapor extraction, application to the subsurface of various oxidizing compounds, and a proprietary air-lift sparging system. Many of these sites have been successfully remediated and closed with “No-Further Action” letters.
I have worked effectively in cooperation with and under the jurisdiction of the relevant federal and state governmental agencies, including the Federal E.P.A (CERCLA/RCRA), the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the Division of Environmental Response and Remediation (DERR) for properties contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons, and the DEQ Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste (DSHW) for properties contaminated with various forms of hazardous waste.
I am required to be knowledgeable with Federal and State rules and regulations, and to be current with all necessary certifications and hold the following:
